If you’re thinking about proposing on your Hawaii vacation and you want to take in all that our beautiful landscapes have to offer, consider popping the question on one of these breathtaking Oahu hikes. If you’ve got a ring, it might be best to leave it at the hotel, so it doesn’t fall down into the waterfall, or consider tying it to something that won’t come off and get lost. It would be a shame to have this happy memory spoiled by a lost engagement ring! What you will want to bring is a camera to take some pictures, some water to refuel, and maybe even a light picnic lunch or snack depending on where you decide to hike. So take a look at these ideas and plan for a memorable start to the next phase of your life as a couple!
1. Ka’iwa Ridge Trail
This hike, also known as the Lanikai Pillboxes hike, is well known for being one of the easiest hikes on the island and one of the most scenic. It’s an easy hike that offers magnificent views of Kailua and Lanikai from the ridge. To get the best views, and avoid crowds, come at dawn or dusk. From different vantage points along the trail you can see the Koolau Mountains and Moku Iki island in the distance. If you’re a stargazer or a moonchild, this is also a great place to see the wonders of our night sky.
2. Likeke Falls
Want to get a little wet on your romantic hike? Then take a journey together to find a secluded waterfall, such as Likeke Falls. All along the way you will see natural beauty surrounding you on this gorgeous, rainforest-like hike, but the real treasure is at the waterfall. This hike is not for beginners, but more for the adventurous couple who wants to get a bit dirty, but is rewarded with extreme beauty. Once you’re there, make the moment extra special with a kiss!
3. Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail
How about a hiking trail that is easy, short, and has access to natural beauty? Then this is your trail! The 2-mile paved route offers amazing views of the coastline from Hawaii Kai to Waimanalo and, of course, a cool lighthouse. If you find yourself in Oahu November through May, you’re in luck because you might sneak a peek of the migrating humpback whales. Bring your binoculars because this is a birdwatcher’s heaven with Hawaiian seabirds, such as the ‘iwa, frigate bird, and tropicbird flying overhead! You can even see the other Hawaiian islands of Moloka’i and Lana’i on a clear day.
